South Molton is growing in size, with more new houses being built and plans for more on the horizon… What we need are more businesses moving to South Molton, to provide our area with more local jobs – not simply minimum wage jobs but a broad mix of specialised industries (like tech companies) and lower skilled, worthwhile jobs that can lead to better things and better job satisfaction.
There is a parcel of land being released for commercial development, let’s hope something beneficial to us all is built… Visit the South Molton Town Council website and view the Tender Document. The closing date to tender is 22nd September 2017. You can download the Tender Document here.
The tragedies that have unfolded on the North Devon Link Road have sadly again highlighted the need for upgrading our main arterial road.
DevonLive.com have started a petition:
‘For too long the North Devon Link Road has been blighted by serious and even fatal accidents caused by the fact that there are few opportunities for overtaking.
A package of measures are in place to make the road safer, but no official timetable exists for the works and a lengthy Government preferred scheme process still has to be gone through.
We want the Department of Transport to get on with the works without delay, and publish a timetable that would give Devon residents and visitors to the county confidence that the works will be undertaken.’
Following on from conversations with members and other businesses in our area we were asked to lobby our local MP regarding the disrupted use of the Link Road during July and beyond. A copy of the letter received from Peter Heaton-Jones MP can be found here.
We would like to thank local businesses for their support and for donating raffle prizes to the Calvert Trust fund raiser we were going to be involved with at the North Devon Show.
It was a big shame that the North Devon weather prevented the show from happening this year. South Molton business Association had geared up to promote members and other businesses in our area at the event. We are now looking for alternative opportunities…
We are talking with Calvert Trust regarding other ways to work with them, to raise funds and promote South Molton businesses.
