Autumn Extravaganza – Friends of South Molton Community College – October 2017

Friends of South Molton Community College Autumn Extravaganza event  will be taking place Thursday 19th October, between 6pm and 9pm .

‘The purpose of The Friends of SMCC is to raise funds to support our students and we are presently a small group of dedicated staff and parents who give up their own time to run events including school reunions, and Christmas and Summer Fairs.

As I am sure you are aware, we moved into our new school building earlier this year, and we would like to showcase our wonderful new building as well as promote local business and enterprise. With this in mind we intend to have an “Autumn Extravaganza – Showcasing Local Business and Enterprise” evening on Thursday 19th October, between 6pm and 9pm where we hope local businesses will have a small stall in our Atrium advertising their products and services. Each business/stall holder will have to pay £10 for their pitch, but anything they sell or take on the night will be theirs. This will be a fantastic opportunity for your members to promote their businesses in that vital run up to Christmas.

We hope to combine this with an Open Evening so that members of the community can have tours of our new school, along with refreshments and a raffle, so we’re hoping that the event will attract many local families. Because this will be a family event we do ask that businesses refrain from serving alcohol. We also hope to have a small number of side rooms available for demos e.g. massage or beauty therapies.

If anyone would like more details or would like to book a pitch, they can contact us on friends@smcc.devon.sch.uk

Once you have checked the handbook and our website and believe you have a good project that would benefit the local economy, please get in contact with the LEADER team on 01237 426423 or by email on leader5@northdevonplus.co.uk

Funding for Woodland Creation

The Forestry Commission through their Woodland Carbon Fund are offering grants to support the planting of multipurpose, predominantly productive woodlands which are over 30 ha in size. These grants will be used to provide opportunities for woodland owners to work in partnership at a landscape scale, to improve public access to woodland and to achieve wider national environmental outcomes. The grant rate (%) is dependent on whether you will allow public access to the woodland and where your woodland will be located – with priority areas for North Devon and Torridge around Barnstaple, Bideford and Ilfracombe. For more information and how to apply click here

Community Buildings

The Big Lottery Reaching Communities Buildings fund provides revenue and capital funding for land and buildings projects in England that cost more than £100,000. If your community building project will be less than £100,000 there is the Reaching Communities fund. The focus is on revitalising existing community buildings (where possible)  based in the most deprived ‘Lower Super Output Areas’ in England.
